Trail Ten … the name may not give this initiative the weight it deserves (we’re admittedly bad at creative trail names).  A few short years ago KMBC began the “The largest trail expansion in our history” with Trail 1A.  Today the club is excited to announce an expansion that is monumental in comparison.  Proposed is a 20+ mile expansion through the best terrain that Kickapoo State Park has to offer -- some of the best terrain and landscapes in the Midwest.

Trail Ten will traverse deeper ravines and steeper hillsides than anything in our current trail system.  The proposed expansion will take us north from the current system to within view of the neighboring Kennekuk County Park -- connecting two popular, yet underutilized swathes of public land.  Combined with our existing 17+ miles, this trail system will provide opportunity for endurance events, epic backcountry rides and multi-day mountain biking trips.

The build will include long stretches of machine-built bench-cut trail, bridges and armoring.  We’ll need help, lots of help. Initially, we’ll need funding to pay for equipment, operators, materials and manpower.  Trail Ten will then require a significant ongoing commitment from our volunteers and donors. Lastly, we need community acknowledgment and support -- support from businesses, leaders and community groups.

This is not a trivial undertaking.  It’s a big swing and a game-changer for our community.  Kickapoo is routinely acknowledged by local and national publications as being one of the best mountain bike destinations in the Midwest.  This expansion will bring cyclists to our community...for multiple days. It’ll be a source of pride, revenue and culture. It’ll give a new generation a place to experience nature, build confidence and find a healthy community.
